Sustainable Right Based Fisheries Policy

Our major campaign focuses on the bringing sustainable right based fisheries policy.

Offshoots of this campaign are:

Abolition of the Contract System on all inland water bodies of Sindh;

Fishing rights cards or authority letters;

Complete ban on the deep sea trawlers;

Restoration of the Indus Delta by sending 35 MAF water into it every year;

Stop arrest and detention of fishers of India and Pakistan;

Produce learned cadres of fishersfolks for a vital fisherfolk social movement;

Improve life and working of fishers at home and sea.

In conference decided that Struggle for New Water Paradigm in Pakistan.

Unanimously agreed to form a New Water paradigm Commission of Pakistan.

Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum organized a one day conference on ‘Indus Delta on 19th January, 2009 at Hotel Regent Plaza in Karachi.

The conference was attended by water experts, researchers, civil society organizations and a large number of community members.

KARACHI, Jan 28: The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has called for release of all detained fishermen languishing in the prisons of India and Pakistan on charges of crossing the water zone of their respective country for fishing.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, PFF chairman Mohammad Shah said fishermen of both the countries had been detained and tortured by the security agencies on charges of crossing the water zone of their respective country. For years they were not produced in any court, he said.

PFF is inviting to all son of the soils, either who are growers, peasants, labors or Fishers etc will participate in the Long March and pay their contribution for the protection of natural resources of Sindh for the future generations and restoration of Indus River and Rehabilitation of Indus Delta.

Pakistan Fisherfolk’s starting campaign against contract-based system in full swing

Karachi-A move to ascertain the current status of wetlands and fresh water bodies, located in different districts of the province, has been initiated to design a strategy of safeguarding the source of living of the fishermen residing nearby.

PFF holds protest rally against contract system at Umerkot

UMERKOT, Nov 28: Hundreds of fishermen and women took out a procession here on Sunday in protest against contract system for fishing in fresh waters and expressed solidarity with the fishermen of Kalankar Lake situated in the midst of sand dunes between Umerkot and Sanghar districts.

The protest was organised by the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) to mark the beginning of a month-long campaign for fishermen’s rights.

The participants came from different parts of the province.

HYDERABAD, Nov 21: Hundreds of fishermen and women from different areas of the province took out a procession here on Sunday to observe the World Fisheries Day. They urged international financial institution to write off Pakistans debt and announce that the amount would be used for the rehabilitation of people displaced by recent floods.

Karachi- Jan,18.2011: Residents of various fishing villages in Keamari and Bin Qasim towns held a rally outside the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday to protest against the Sunday night attack on a community organisation office in Kaka village and demanded action against the “influential figures” involved in the incident. They also called for the arrest of all those responsible for the removal of mangroves along the coastline, thus putting the life and property of fishermen at risk.

    Onslaught on PFF workers has been increased by land Mafia. PFF workers especially Kaka Pir villagers has been subjected to perpetual harassment and intimidation instead of extension of justice to them for their two workers murdered already by Land Mafia.

    The land mafia involved in mangroves cutting in Keamari Town kidnapped two activists namely Latif Dorai and Bilal Baloch of Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) on Monday morning .They were severely tortured. Ironically Police lodged fake FIR against him shamelessly at Mauripur police station that is hub of Fake FIRs .
