By the mid of 2008, PFF reviewed its strategies and themes. During this review, it was realized that large part of PFF’s activities are being carried out under the theme of disaster and humanitarian, therefore, it was felt to establish a separate component with specific objective and agenda of dealing with disaster and humanitarian issues in the disaster prone areas that directly and indirectly are affecting fisherfolks and environment.
The disaster and humanitarian unit was established at the end of meeting having five members of PFF’s governing body and four staff members. Currently it aims to work in seven disaster prone areas of Sindh province i.e. Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Dadu, Sanghar and Qambar, with having more than 200 dedicated volunteers.
The disaster and humanitarian unit has mission to work for relief, rehabilitation and development of vulnerable communities of the seven districts in collaboration with donors, partners and related stakeholders.
