PFF Flood Daily Report Aug18
Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has put all the three regional teams alert to monitor the situation closely and share updates. Despite difficulties, hurdles, fears and lack of resources the PFF is proud to say that the organization people are playing their role dedicatedly. Boats where available are working to rescue the people stranded in many areas. The fears of breaching, unlawfully cuts to embankments by certain people to save their crops and villages is another uncertainty. Now when the water level is rising putting pressure on the River left side embankment near Matiari District and fears of weakening protective bund along Hyderabad and Kotri are the major problem. Because, Hyderabad is the second biggest city of the porovince and commercial hub of the country, which now is under threats. However, PFF has also assigned the task to the team members, community volunteers and officials to monitor the situation closely.
A Ray of Hope
After PFF’s intervention and close coordination with the respective district governments from worst affected Kashmore to tail end Thatta district the PFF has won the trust of the district officials. In this regard, at some places the PFF approached district government administrations for providing food and essential items to displaced people living in the open, road sides and embankments. This rapid respond by the district administration has created a ray of hope for these people. PFF team members wherever they are working are in close coordination with the government trying to help the people displaced from different parts of the flood affected areas. This inspiring action by the PFF brings good name to the organization, as they are working to reach the number of people despite limited resources.
PFF Mobilisation in Karachi Suburbs
PFF has mobilized the community in coastal areas of Karachi suburbs to generate relief fund and goods from the communities to help the people living in camps near there. Definitely response by certain people is positive. In this regard, PFF team was approached by a private TV Channel KTN, which is generating fund and relief goods through relief camps showed willingness to give the ration and non-food items with PFF team. These goods were distributed the displaced families living near Ibrahim Hydri camps, which were identified by the PFF team, monitoring in Karachi.
