PFF Daily Update Report Aug21
Situation Updates
Looking the worst situation and effects of flood water, Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) has sent teams of volunteers to different districts, including Shahdadkot, Dadu, Jamshoro and Thatta to help the people. It was observed that there is acute shortage of Ration, Food and other facilities for the affected families sitting in open or isolated shelters. Road damages have already disconnected several towns and the people are facing difficulties. The government functionaries and NGOs working there are also facing difficulty to reach these people to extend help them.
Shahdadkot District
Shahdadkot is 90% in danger zone. Still the city is safe but emergency exists. The flood water pressure to the protective bund made by the government to save the city is rising and fears are there that water may enter the city at any time. District administration has advised the residents for evacuation of women, children and elderly people to the safer places. But despite Government' claim for making the arrangement of transportation there is no facility available for the people, who want to shift their families. The breaches have been made in the roads and water courses by the authorities to give way the flood water to RBOD III, which is already full of rain water. So it is assumed, the condition can be changed and become worst any time. However, Shahdad kot city is also in danger, the flood water which came from Usta Muhammed reached in Chukhi after crossing Gandakha. After devastating 250 villages, this water will enter in Qubo Saeed khan. In this case 60,000 estimated population of Qubo Saeed Khan and 200 estimated villages could be affected by the flood.
Jamshoro
The water pressure has caused fears as in several villages, which do not have embankments. These people have been at risk due to the reason that earlier, since there was no flood for the last 15 years, they were unaware of the losses. The recent flood has affected some villages, compelling them to shift to other places. Fears of displacement still prevail on Saturday.
? In thousands people are out of government camps and got place at mountains
? 3 minor leakages people found and timely plugged near Manjhand.
? People from Gharibabad, Unarpur, Budhapur, Khasai are being evacuated.
? Veh Dari (Rustam Khoso, Gul Beg Khoso and Bachar Khan Khoso villages) got complete evacuation and most of the dwellers are sitting under open sky.
? Dhari Ghancho is also having the same situation.
? Multani Mian got under water.
? Karo Kho is got safe timely but increasing pressure may pose havoc.
? Khanpur is safe so far but may get hurt soon.
? Scarcity of resources i.e. Human, financial and physical producing problems.
? Multiple tasking without adequate resources looking very difficult.
Thatta
PFF team in Thatta reveals that the situation in tail end coastal areas, being located at the mouth of the river ending into the sea is deplorable. Around 40 small villages are being affected. Despite sharing the information with the government there is no vehicle to shift families, which earlier were out of danger. Now unimaginably the flood water has covered wide area along the coast and may inundate several coastal villages and destroy makeshift houses. In Taluka Thatta, Tando Hafiz Town and around seven other villages have come under the water and people have been shifted to safe places. For this, the PFF team observed that these areas being located at the weak bank of the River do not have protective bund for long. They always come under the water. However, there is no death reported till yet. But fears of facing health problems are there because of unavailability of active basic health units in the entire area. There is much pressure now in Thatta district and residents are panicked.
