PFF Flood update 6 sep
PFF Daily Report Sep 6
The residents of Jatti Taluka, Thatta district presently are worst victim of flood. Most of the people were unaware, while flood water hit their areas. These people were affected by artificial cuts given to Nangan Wah by certain government authorities to save Deewan Sugar Mill and Golarchi town, Badin district and tried to divert its direction to the coastal area, without prior intimation to the locals. This has caused disaster. The people of coastal villages being unaware of facing such a horrible situation now have come under the water, facing hunger, food and water shortage. It is fear like situation.
Initially PFF activists designed a list of 37 villages belonging to fishermen communities, including Qadirdino Borhio, Gul Thaheem, Jurio Thaheemore, Baig Bhadai, Suleman Borhio and others, which are stranded in Jatti neighbourhoods. The number of affected villages could be more as there is no communication with the people living in far off villages. Residents of three talukas of Thatta district Kharo Chhan, Shah Bunder and Keti Bunder have shifted to the safer places and there are no threats of floods to the people residing at isolated islands. But the coastal people of Jatti are facing trouble, because there is no land route for them to come out. They do not have access to routes, food and safe places and facing trouble.

Updates from Qambar-Shahdadkot
PFF and GOAL Ireland team met with DCO Qambar-Shahdadkot to discuss the issues of the IDPS from Dadu and other districts and situation of camps for the displaced people. In the meeting it was discussed that how PFF-Goal partnership will work along with the district government for the installation and management of new camps in the district. As Goal Ireland has got a significant amount of shelter material with the help of UNHCR with the intention of providing much more needed assistance to unmet needs of the flood affected population of Qambar-Shahdadkot. Members of Goal also will be lobbying with their head office and other UN and INGOs for the assistance in sectors of shelter, food, camp management and WASH.
DCO assured the team that if and when the new camps are installed by PFF with the help of Goal Ireland government will also supplement those camps with the provision of water, food and security. DCO has suggested that Shahdadkot will be the most appropriate area to install a new camp city. He particularly suggested the Sasooli Picot area.
So far, PFF has distributed 250 shelters among the flood affected population which was situated along the road sides. Out of 250, about 100 shelters are installed at a playground in Qambar city. PFF will also help some of the communities to move from the road sides to the insides of the town such as railway station and other playground or government owned properties. PFF field team and Goal Irelands monitoring team have suggested that it is much easier to target few large camps of at least 100 families instead of several smaller and scattered camps comprising of only 10-30 families.
PFF team at Qambar will be working with the government officials and local affected communities to devise a beneficiary selection process and mechanism. This will be shared with all stakeholders by tomorrow.
Kashmore
PFF team’s food items distribution at Kashmore have crossed the figure of 4500 beneficiary families. The food distribution will be completed in coming days before Eid. The distribution of NFI’s and hygiene kits will be started from 8th September.
Eidul Fitr
Eidul Fitr is approaching fast and the displaced families are still waiting to see when the situation gets normalized in their areas. Hundreds of families would not be able to see their relatives on this auspicious occasion, because the devastated flood scattered many families, who are ordinarily settled in different areas. In this situation PFF has already announced to be together with the affected communities in this difficult moment.
