PFF Flood Daily Report Sep7

Rescue operation initiated by Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum in Jatti, Thatta district is going on smoothly. The PFF rescue and relief teams running speed boats and vehicles are trying to reach marooned people and successfully rescued 32 families of Umer Borhio, Ghullam Hussain Borhio, UC Karr Malik, Taluka Jati and shifted them to Irrigation Colony, Tando Mohammad Khan on their request. PFF team also successfully rescued 204 other individuals of village Ghullam Hussain Borhio, Haji Qasim Thaheem, Eisa Borhio and Mubarak Borhio. These villages had come under the water after certain people gave artificial cuts to Nangan Wah to divert the flow of the flood water. There was no communication with these people as they did not have access to land routes.

Thatta
Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum is working hard to facilitate the people living in camps and those staying in the open. PFF relief team is active to provide cooked food to 300 families (more than 1500 individuals). PFF Thatta distributed water coolers and hygiene kits among 1198 families. Mr.Suleman Shah from Concern Worldwide along with a foreign journalist observed the process of distribution and documented the activity. Mr.Shah demonstrated satisfaction with the way PFF is making distribution in well organized way and peaceful atmosphere.
PFF Thatta has begun the work of setting up 100 pit latrines at Makli, which has accommodated hundreds of displaced people, hailing from different villages of the district. This activity is supported by Concern worldwide.

Visit by Foreign Journalist
It is the tradition of the PFF that its activists and leaders always encouraged media persons to see their work to make it more transparent and accountable. The organization also welcomes the constructive criticism from any quarter to improve its functioning. In this regard, PFF Thatta arranged a boat visit for a foreign journalist, who recorded the submerged villages. He also interviewed the people and the PFF team members asked about the activities PFF was doing. So far PFF Thatta has arranged visits for more than 18 local and foreign journalists. PFF provided boats to observe personally the rescue operation PFF was doing and shifting the people to safer places.
Karachi camp witnessed horrible situation
In Sindhi Primary School Ibrahim Hyderi camp, food suppliers provided poisonous food, which caused fainting 45 people, mostly minor children. About 1331 families were present at the camp, who now are looking fearful and thinking the option to leave the neighbourhood after the incident. PFF already pointed out that the people are being provided unsafe food which is dangerious to the health of the families living there. For these families there are only 16 wash rooms and water is also insufficient for cleanliness. Washrooms are not properly washed and required material is not available to keep the sanitation system clean. On immediate action PFF had called to ambulances form EDHI, HANDS, and civil Hospital as well as communicated with doctors for emergency service provision. Due to this immediate action 54 people, including men, women and children were admitted in hospital and medical aid was provided them. According to doctor it was happened due to food poisoning.
Dadu
Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has successfully channelized UNHCR and got 8000 plastic sheets for flood affectees of District Jamshoro and Dadu. The sheets shall be distributed among shelterless people. In order to identify beneficiaries in District Dadu IRC shall also be contacted.
