Just and Sustainable Livelihoods
In September 2008, Oxfam Novib and PFF joined hand together to initiate a project Just and Sustainable Livelihoods. The project is launched in eight districts which are Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Kashmore, Qambar and Shahdadkot in Sindh and Gawadar in Balochistan. It aims to mobilize and organize fisherfolk communities in the respective districts for the attainment of just and sustainable livelihoods.
Under the project, PFF will expand its membership, village units and will strengthen the organizational capacity in the existing units; fishers will be informed and trained to defend their fundamental human rights and raise their concerns at all forums; advocate on fishery policy through holding rallies, seminars and demonstrations and meetings with governmental representatives at provincial and federal level; awareness on disasters.
Besides there will be research studies on socioeconomic conditions of fishing community and alternative/ additional livelihood sources and development of Plans on WATSEN and sustainable livelihood options.
